Learn to cast objects in bronze using an industrial technique adapted to small scale production. Sandcasting is a low-tech method that is quick, satisfying, and produces very little waste as most materials can be reused, including the original that is being cast. You will learn how to make a mold using cast iron casting frames and a special sand called Petrobond. You will then fire up an oxy-propane torch to melt bronze in a crucible for pouring into the mold. Finishing techniques such as sawing, filing, sanding, sandblasting, drilling holes, and adding a patina will be covered. The instructor will provide introductory objects and patterns for participants to cast. With experience students can make jewelry components, small sculptural pieces, furniture findings and more.
