What counts as a community event?

Anything a town, library, neighbourhood group or nonprofit puts on for the people who live here — festivals, tree lightings, volunteer days, town hall open houses, library programs. Most are free and most welcome kids.

Are community events good for young kids?

Usually yes, and they are often the easiest outing with little ones: outdoors, come-and-go, no tickets, and nobody minds a toddler wandering. Look for the kid-friendly tag if you want the ones built specifically for children.

Which Triangle towns have the most community events?

Raleigh and Durham have the most by volume, but the smaller towns punch above their weight — Wake Forest, Apex, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs and Knightdale all run busy calendars, and they are far less crowded.

Do community events cost money?

The large majority are free. Where there is a cost it is usually a few dollars for materials or a plate of food. You can filter to free events if that is what you need.

How far ahead are community events announced?

Towns tend to post two to four weeks out, and libraries about a month. Big annual events go up months in advance. We pull from the town and library calendars daily, so new listings appear here as soon as they are published.
