They host many events for both adults and kids. South Wake Conservationists also presents many events for nature-loving adults and kids. Getting involved with this group and attending their events is a great way to learn more about the wildlife and environment in the Triangle. One of South Wake Conservationists' popular programs is Eco Kids. The mission of Eco Kids is to engage the younger generation to develop a lifelong appreciation of the natural habitat and wildlife, and to learn, explore and have fun in the outdoors. John Connors, retired Coordinator of The Naturalist Center at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, will share the biology, history, and behaviors of this very unique bird. Followed by a social. In 1682 a swift was found nesting for the first time in a chimney at a colonist’s cabin in Maine. This event forever changed the relationship between chimney swifts and people. From the journals of early explorers through the efforts of the largest all-volunteer research project to study the migration of a single species of bird, to Jesuit missionaries in a far-off land, it’s a remarkable story.
