JULY 4TH

July 4th Fireworks in the Triangle

Every fireworks show and Independence Day celebration within a short drive — verified, so you never park for a show that isn't happening.

77 upcoming on our calendar
Raleigh, Durham & Chapel Hill

The Triangle puts on more July 4th fireworks than any family could see in one weekend — the biggest are the City of Raleigh's show at Dorothea Dix Park, the Town of Cary's celebration at Koka Booth Amphitheatre, post-game fireworks at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, and Apex's Olde Fashioned Fourth of July downtown.

Below are the anchor celebrations that come back every year, followed by a live list of every July 4th event on our verified calendar — dates and venues checked against each event's official page, because nothing ruins the holiday like driving kids to a field where nothing is happening.

The Anchor Shows — Back Every Year

These are the big, reliable celebrations Triangle families plan around. Details shift year to year, so the live list below has this year's specifics.

Raleigh's July 4th at Dorothea Dix Park

Dorothea Dix Park, Raleigh

The City of Raleigh's signature Independence Day celebration, with the fireworks lighting up over the downtown skyline. The 308 acres of open field mean you can spread a blanket almost anywhere and still have a clear view — arrive early, bring chairs and water, and expect the exits to take a while afterward. Food trucks and live music usually round out the evening.

Best for: The big-show experience, skyline views

Town of Cary's July 4th at Koka Booth Amphitheatre

Koka Booth Amphitheatre, Cary

Cary's celebration pairs an evening of live music with one of the best fireworks displays in the western Triangle, set over Symphony Lake. The lawn is comfortable for little kids, and the whole event is famously well-organized. Parking fills early — the town runs shuttles most years, and families who live nearby often just walk in.

Best for: Families with younger kids, a calmer crowd

Durham Bulls Fireworks

Durham Bulls Athletic Park, downtown Durham

Around the 4th, the Bulls run post-game fireworks after home games — a baseball game and a fireworks show in one ticket, which is about as easy as a July 4th plan gets with kids. Seats are affordable, the show starts right after the final out, and you're walking distance from the American Tobacco Campus for pre-game dinner.

Best for: Baseball families, a built-in evening plan

Apex Olde Fashioned Fourth of July

Downtown Apex

Apex leans into the small-town version of the holiday — a daytime celebration through its historic downtown with kids' activities and classic Americana, then evening fireworks. If your kids are too young to make it to a 9:30pm show, the daytime festivities here are the best toddler-friendly July 4th in the Triangle.

Best for: Toddlers, daytime celebrating, small-town feel

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the biggest July 4th fireworks in the Triangle?
The two biggest shows are the City of Raleigh's celebration at Dorothea Dix Park and the Town of Cary's celebration at Koka Booth Amphitheatre. Durham's most reliable option is post-game fireworks at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, and most surrounding towns — Apex, Fuquay-Varina, Wake Forest, Garner — run their own shows, so there is almost always one within a fifteen-minute drive.
Are Triangle fireworks shows free?
Most town-run celebrations are free to attend — Raleigh's Dix Park show, Apex's downtown celebration, and most municipal events cost nothing beyond parking. The Durham Bulls fireworks require a game ticket, and some amphitheater events have paid seating areas alongside free lawn space. Every event in our live list is flagged free or ticketed.
What should I bring to fireworks with kids?
Blankets or low chairs, water, bug spray, and ear protection for babies and toddlers — the big shows are loud. Arrive at least an hour early for the major shows at Dix Park and Koka Booth; parking is the hard part, not the view. A late-afternoon nap makes the 9:15–9:30pm start time survivable for little ones.
What if my kids can't stay up for the fireworks?
Go daytime instead: Apex's Olde Fashioned Fourth of July runs family activities through the day, and several towns hold morning parades. Some years a venue runs an early 'kids countdown' style event — check the live list above, which pulls everything on our verified calendar.
