The Frankie G. Weems Gallery at Meredith College features the exhibition The Shape of Shifting by the artist Amy Wetsch. Amy’s practice spans installations, paintings, drawings, mixed-media sculptures, and publicly engaged works. Her practice examines systems in constant motion, including tectonic shifts beneath the Earth’s surface, adaptive microorganisms in extreme environments, and human bodies that continually recalibrate in response to internal and external change. Rooted in geological processes, her practice explores how pressure, fracture, and flow create form through a state of constant transformation. Amy experiments with materials like sand, salts, paper pulp, and glass to create otherworldly forms and surfaces that feel active. These shifting structures never fully settle, suggesting landscapes that are continually breaking apart and reforming. Through the unveiling of the earth’s hidden processes, Amy evokes a sense of wonder for our environment, calling us to appreciate and advocate for it. Opening Reception - September 10th, 5– 7 pm Gallery Talk - September 10th, 5:30 pm in Room 137, Gaddy-Hamrick Art Center
