A meditation retreat for everyone with modern Buddhist monk Gen Kelsang Norbu! In this introductory meditation retreat, Gen Norbu will introduce the basics of moral discipline, inner peace, and love, explaining why each one is essential for our happiness, and guiding us in practical meditations on them. Do you ever feel like something is missing? Whether we “have it all” or not, external things can’t make us happy, because happiness comes from within. More specifically, without inner peace there is no real happiness at all. By practicing moral discipline we can create the causes of inner peace and happiness. And all the happiness there is in this world arises from wishing others to be happy, which is real love. “From discipline comes happiness.” - Buddha

The Happiness Course: Moral Discipline, Inner Peace, and Love is a one-day meditation retreat led by a modern Buddhist monk at the Kosala Kadampa Buddhist Center. Designed for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, the sessions focus on practical ways to quiet the mind and find contentment from within. If you plan to attend, the workshop runs from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 19, and costs $35 for non-members. The center is located in Chapel Hill, where street parking and local lots are available nearby. While the concepts are best suited for adults and teenagers rather than young children, parents will find the stress-relief techniques highly applicable to daily family life. This event is an excellent weekend choice because it offers a rare block of quiet time to recharge. Stepping away from your to-do list for a few hours of guided reflection can help you return to your household with a refreshed perspective and more patience for the week ahead.
