The Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray was a twentieth-century human rights activist, legal scholar, author, labor organizer, poet, Episcopal priest, multiracial Black, LGBTQ+ Durhamite who lived one of the most remarkable lives of the 20th century. S/he was the first Black person to earn a JSD (Doctor of the Science of Law) degree from Yale Law School, a founder of the National Organization for Women and the first Black person perceived as a woman to be ordained an Episcopal priest. Join a self-guided tour of Pauli Murray's childhood home and explore both the outdoor and indoor exhibits, highlighting the themes of identity, activism, and love. Please note that these tours are self-guided. While staff and volunteers will be on site to help answer questions and welcome you to the space, please register for a guided tour if you are hoping to attend a more formal presentation. Children are always welcome, but must be supervised by an adult. All are welcome at the Pauli Murray Center.
