A major commemoration event for the 25th anniversary of 9-11 featuring a 200-voice chorus with professional soloists and full DSO symphony. This event is organized by Choral Society of Durham in partnership with the Durham Symphony to remember the many innocent lives lost during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and to reaffirm our community's commitment to unity, service, and resilience. As we mark this solemn anniversary, it is important to come together as a community to remember those who were lost and to reflect on the strength that emerged in the face of tragedy.Mozart's Requiem, one of the most widely sung and recognizable choral/orchestral works, was performed in many U.S. locations as a response to the tragic attacks 25 years ago. Over the years since then, it has continued to serve as a fitting expression of the grief experiences that day and beyond, putting into words and music all the intense feelings which might otherwise be impossible to articulate.Mozart’s Requiem in D minor is widely considered a supreme choral masterpiece. Composed in 1791 and left unfinished at his death, it blends profound emotional depth, dramatic intensity, and a haunting sense of mortality, making it one of the most revered works in classical music history.
