Join the Maker + STEAM team to use the laser cutter to cut and engrave an acrylic or wood pronoun pin in a small group learning environment with hands-on help! We will use our materials and provide materials for one acrylic or wood pronoun pin per registrant. Come ready with a design idea, a .jpg or .png of your design image, or just curiosity and we will show you how you can design your own. This small-group atmosphere will help introduce you to the laser cutter in a welcoming setting and show you the process of completing a laser cut project to help you prepare for when you reserve the laser cutter on your own in the future. Registration is required. Participants will need to sign a safety waiver when in the makerspace. (This program is open to teens and adults. Teens under the age of 18 must have a guardian/parent present to sign the waiver.) We also ask that you take the online, self-paced laser cutter orientation prior to coming to the program (if you haven't already) so that the orientation setup steps are completed. Note: If you have any accessibility questions or accommodation needs, please contact us at Maker_STEAM@dconc.gov. We ask that all requests be made at least 3 business days prior to the event to ensure we can provide the best accommodations possible!

Community

Laser Cut Your Own Pronoun Pin is a hands-on maker workshop where participants learn to design and create a custom acrylic or wood pin using a laser cutter. Led by the library's Maker and STEAM team, this small-group session teaches you how to operate the machinery safely and prepare files for future independent projects. This free workshop is designed for teenagers and adults, making it a great afternoon activity for middle or high schoolers interested in technology and design. The library provides all necessary materials for one pin, but you should bring a design idea or a digital image file on a flash drive to get started. Because participants must sign a safety waiver, parents must accompany any teenagers under eighteen to the Innovation Lab. It is a smart weekday pick for creative teens who want to learn a practical new skill in a supportive environment. Learning to navigate the library's maker space opens up free access to high-tech tools for future school projects and personal crafts.
