The ESOL Intermediate Level Class is a free language course designed to help adults improve their English speaking, reading, and writing skills. Organized by the Durham Literacy Center, these sessions run twice a week in a structured semester format to help non-native speakers gain confidence in their daily communication. Before attending, you must contact the Durham Literacy Center to take a placement test, as registration through the library is closed. The class meets in Conference Room 3214 at the Main Library in downtown Durham, which offers free parking in the attached deck for the first four hours. This program is designed for adults, so you will need to arrange childcare for younger children during the two-hour session. While this is a weekday morning class rather than a weekend activity, it is a valuable resource to map out for your weekly routine. Taking time for your own education on a Monday morning sets a productive tone for the week ahead, and the library location makes it easy to return books or study afterward.
You cannot register directly through the library. You must contact the Durham Literacy Center at ESOL@durhamliteracy.org or call (919) 489-8383, ext. 25 to take a placement test before attending.
Is there a cost for the class and where do I park?
The class is entirely free. You can park for free for up to four hours in the Main Library parking deck in downtown Durham.
