Participate in the Royal Game of Chess! The Downtown Durham Chess Club meets on selected Saturdays from 1:30-5:30 pm; check the calendar for dates. All are welcome to attend regardless of age or skill level. Instruction will be provided to beginners and novices. Sets and boards are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish. The Downtown Durham Chess Club is a free, biweekly community gathering where players of all ages and skill levels meet to play and learn the game of chess. What to know before you go: The club meets on the fourth floor of the Main Library in room 4347. You do not need to bring any equipment because the library provides all the boards and pieces, though you can bring your own favorite set if you prefer. Beginners are highly welcome, and experienced players are on hand to teach children and novices the basic rules and strategies. Parking is available in the library lot, and there is no registration required. This is a smart weekend option if you want to get out of the house, enjoy some quiet focus, and help your kids build their critical thinking skills in a relaxed, multi-generational setting.
