Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation is presenting a Community Book Bag Giveaway for local students. It takes place on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Hargraves Community Center, 216 Roberson Street, Chapel Hill. This is a free event and no registration is required. Check out a big list of back to school bashes in the Triangle. In addition to the annual bookbag give away there will be food, free haircuts and braids, activities, live entertainment and more! Bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a day of music, food, and a variety of activities for youth and adults. Families are asked to not begin lining up until 9:30 a.m. Bookbag distribution will begin at 10 a.m. Lunch 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Children must be present to receive a book bag.
