This class will cover the basic operation of the CNC plasma table. Participants will learn the process of powering on the machine, setting up your material, and programming the cut. During this class you will cut one or two fun shapes of your choice from our library of files. This class will begin to prepare you to use the machine on your own. This class does not cover how to draw in CAD software.
CNC Plasma Table - Orientation is a hands-on introductory class where participants learn to safely operate metal-cutting machinery. During the forty-five minute session, instructors guide you through powering on the machine, securing your metal sheets, and programming the cuts using a pre-loaded library of shapes. This class is held at ShopSpace, located near downtown Raleigh, and costs $100 per person. Because of the industrial nature of the workshop, this activity is best suited for parents and teenagers rather than younger children. Wear closed-toe shoes and natural fiber clothing like cotton, as synthetic materials are not safe around sparks. It is a productive weekend option if you want to try a new hands-on hobby or explore the local maker community. You will leave the shop with one or two custom-cut metal shapes that you programmed and cut yourself.

Do I need to know how to use design software before taking this class?
