Fifty years ago, during the July Fourth weekend of 1976, Durham joined communities across the nation in celebrating America’s Bicentennial. At West Point on the Eno, residents gathered for a festival showcasing traditional North Carolina arts, music, crafts, and culture. To mark the 50th anniversary of this memorable event, the Museum of Durham History has partnered with organizers of the original celebration to share photographs, memories, and music from that special weekend. Join them for an informal reception during Third Friday, July 17, 2026, at from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Museum of Durham History, 500 W Main Street, Durham, North Carolina. This is a free event. Enjoy live music, explore historic images from the event, and hear stories from those who were there as we look back on this unique moment in Durham’s history. Double-Check Before You Head Out!
