Zines are small, self or independently published booklets that give creators a space to share ideas, stories, perspectives, and art outside of traditional publishing. Zines usually emphasize personal voice, experimentation, and storytelling. Zines have also been used as a way for people to share their own stories about art, community, personal lives, political expressions, and criticisms. In commemoration of America 250 and Duke's "We the People" initiative, join us in the Makerlab for a zine workshop that examines freedom. How do we imagine freedom through text and visuals? What does it look like when we try to articulate how it surfaces in our lives, our communities, and our history? In this Notes on Freedom workshop, we'll think critically and creatively about the man meanings of freedom. We'll articulate the possibilities, the belonging, the contradictions, the resistance and the hope that comes with freedom. No previous zine making experience is needed!
