Tiki is a culture unto itself. In the pantheon of cocktails and bars, it is situated in a unique space all its own. Tiki has an amazing history, which, until recently, has been hidden behind intrigue and secrets. Thanks to the exhaustive work of revivalists like Jeff “Beachbum” Berry, Martin and Rebecca Cate, the world of Tiki has been cracked wide open for the modern cocktailian, but that does not make it any easier a category to master, and its mystery and history remain both fascinating and worth exploring. Rum(Rhum/Ron) remains the wild west of the spirits world. As long as it is made from sugarcane or the byproducts thereof, anything is fair game. This leads to a remarkably esoteric and multifaceted variety of flavors and styles, unlike any other single spirit category.
