This Week In the Lab: Breakerspace is a free, drop-in workshop where kids can deconstruct old electronics to see how they work. Hosted by the library's Maker and STEAM team, the event provides all the necessary tools and safety guidance for hands-on exploration. This self-paced activity is best suited for elementary and middle schoolers who have the fine motor skills to handle small screwdrivers and pliers. You can find the Innovation Lab on the second floor of the Main Library in downtown Durham, which offers free parking in the attached deck on weekends. There is no registration required, so you can arrive anytime during the two-hour window. It makes a smart Saturday stop because it channels that natural urge to break things into a productive, educational activity. Plus, you can easily combine it with a trip to the children's section downstairs to pick out your books for the week.
