This Week In the Lab: Breakerspace
Arts

This Week In the Lab: Breakerspace is a free, drop-in program where kids can disassemble old electronics to see how they work inside. Hosted by the library's Maker and STEAM team, the event provides all the necessary tools and safety gear for children to tinker at their own pace. This self-paced activity takes place in the Innovation Lab on the second floor of the Main Library in downtown Durham. It is best suited for elementary and middle school-aged children who have the fine motor skills to handle small screwdrivers and pliers. Parking is available in the library's attached deck, which is free for the first two hours. This program makes an excellent Friday afternoon stop because it channels kids' natural urge to break things into a constructive, educational activity. You can drop in for twenty minutes or stay for two hours, making it easy to fit between school dismissal and dinner.
