The South Durham Chess Club is a monthly community gathering where players of all ages and skill levels meet to play and learn chess. Held in the adult programming room, this event welcomes everyone from seasoned players to children who have never touched a pawn. If you are bringing beginners, you do not need to worry about teaching them the rules yourself. Experienced players provide free instruction to novices, and the library supplies all the necessary boards and pieces. You can bring your own favorite set if you prefer, but it is not required. The library has a dedicated parking lot, making it easy to get kids in and out of the building. This meetup is an excellent weekend option because it offers a quiet, focused indoor activity that costs nothing. It is a low-pressure environment where kids can build critical thinking skills and connect with opponents of different generations.
