September StoryWalks of Wake County Parks is an outdoor reading activity where pages of a children's book are posted along a stroller-friendly nature trail. This self-guided program lets you walk at your own pace while reading a story together in the fresh air. This activity is best suited for toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary students who are learning to read. It is entirely free, and you can find these installations at several county park locations during regular park hours. Parking is free at all participating sites, and you should bring water, sunscreen, and a sturdy stroller if you are bringing younger siblings. It makes a great weekend outing because it combines physical activity with early literacy. You can easily pair the walk with a picnic lunch and some time on the park playground to fill an entire morning without spending a dime.
