What is One Walk to Rule Them All Exercise Challenge? This is a self-paced, Lord of the Rings-themed physical activity challenge hosted by the Durham County Library system where participants track their active minutes to earn collectible buttons. To participate, stop by the South Regional Library on Alston Avenue or the North Regional Library on Milton Road to grab a paper tracking sheet, or request a digital copy online. The challenge is entirely free and open to all ages, making it a great motivator for toddlers who need to burn off energy or school-aged kids who love fantasy stories. You can log any type of movement, from playground time to family bike rides, and you have until late November to finish four out of the five challenges. Both library branches offer free, accessible parking lots and clean public restrooms, so you can easily combine your button pickup with your weekly book haul. This is a smart weekend pick because it turns routine physical activity into a game. It gives your kids a tangible goal to work toward during your regular neighborhood walks, and the reward system keeps them motivated to stay moving as the weather cools down.
