Too many plants, not enough planters? Students will build and glaze their own planters. Planters can range from small to medium. We will use hand-building techniques such as pinching and coiling. Perfect for houseplants, herbs or bonsai. Please allow 1-2 weeks for items to be fired. Staff will schedule a pick up date. No experience needed.
One Day Planter is a hands-on clay workshop where participants learn to pinch, coil, and glaze a custom ceramic pot. Led by local instructors, the class covers the fundamentals of hand-building, allowing you to create a small to medium vessel tailored to your favorite bonsai, succulent, or kitchen herb. This class is designed for participants ages 16 and older, making it a great one-on-one date with your teenager. Registration is required, and all clay, glazes, and tools are provided in the fee. Free parking is available in the lot directly behind the Renaissance Centre or along Brooks Street. Because clay needs time to dry and go through the kiln, plan to return to the center in one to two weeks to collect your finished piece. It is a relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon learning a new skill without committing to a multi-week course. You get to enjoy a creative break, work with your hands, and go home with a functional piece of art for your windowsill.
Do I need prior pottery experience to take this class?
No experience is necessary. The instructor will guide you through basic hand-building techniques like pinching and coiling, making it accessible for absolute beginners.
Can I take my planter home the same day?
No, your clay piece must dry completely and go through two kiln firings. The staff will contact you to schedule a pickup date, typically one to two weeks after the workshop.
What is the age limit for this workshop?
This specific class is designed for participants aged 16 and older, so it is best suited for older teens and adults.
