NC Comicon is a locally owned convention celebrating comic books, cosplay, gaming, and animation at the Durham Convention Center. The event focuses heavily on the creators behind the art, making it a prime spot to meet illustrators, writers, and designers from across the region. If you are planning a visit with your kids, keep in mind that this event is best suited for school-aged children, tweens, and teens who have an interest in art or specific fandoms. Ticket prices are not yet published, but children's passes are historically discounted. Park at the Chapel Hill Street or Corcoran Street garages for the easiest walk to the convention center, and be sure to bring cash for the artist tables, as some vendors do not accept cards. This convention makes a solid weekend outing because of its manageable size. Unlike massive national conventions, the Durham setup allows you to actually talk to the artists and see the costumes up close without overwhelming crowds.
While strollers are allowed, the crowded exhibition floor and loud panels are best suited for elementary-aged children and older kids who enjoy comics, dressing up, or gaming.
