Let the Moth Madness begin! Join Chapel Hill Public Library on July 18 for an evening with natures tiniest superheroes!Movie Night - 8pm - Meeting Room BThe Extraordinary Caterpillar is a captivating 60-minute documentary that reveals the secret lives and vital ecological roles of caterpillars. Featuring stunning macro-videography from The Caterpillar Lab, the film showcases these tiny, mighty creatures as the driving engine of terrestrial food webs, while inspiring families to restore biodiversity right in their own backyards.Moth Madness - 9pm - Terrace and Pritchard ParkImmediately following the film, join us for crafts, games, and activities on the terrace and moth viewing in the park with David George—science educator and co-author of the Moths of North Carolina website. Moths are an incredibly diverse and beautiful group of insects, with over 3,000 species found in North Carolina alone! These denizens of the night usually go unseen, but we’ll use special lights to attract them to sheets and identify them. Many species of moths and other night-flying insects are sure to show up for the party—and hopefully so will you!Sheets will be setup in various locations in Pritchard Park to view moths. All locations will be near a paved path but may require walking over uneven surfaces to view moths.
