Japanese Paper Arts: Somegami (Fold & Dye Paper)

Designed for parents and children to explore paper arts together, but all are welcomed! This hands-on program introduces the art of Some-gami, traditional Japanese fold-and-dye paper craft! In this hands-on class, participants will fold paper small, dip the corners in color, and unfold to reveal unique geometric patterns. Some-gami is related to shibori, an old Japanese fabric-dyeing method. Friday, October 9, 2026 10:30-11:15 a.m. Maker Lab at Durham County Main Library (300 N. Roxboro St., Durham, NC) Registration preferred Additionally, the JOI teacher will introduce Japanese sports day events and school life during the class. This is Session 1 of 2 Japanese paper art classes offered this morning. You are welcome to attend 1 or both sessions!
