Each Sunday, from 2p - 4p. No pre-registration is required, however if your group will be larger than 4 people, please send a quick email at theteam@brightblackcandles.com with the number in your party and the time/date you'd like to attend, so they can make sure they're ready for you and your group. Please note: if your group will be larger than 6 guests, please work with their team to schedule a private event.
Hot Wax on Tap is a weekly drop-in candle making workshop hosted at the Bright Black studio in Durham. Visitors can stop by to blend scents and pour their own custom wax creations without needing a formal class reservation. If you are planning to go, keep in mind that while individuals can just walk in, groups of five or six need to email the shop ahead of time so staff can prepare your space. The activity is best suited for teenagers and older children who can safely handle warm wax and focus on the step-by-step pouring process. Street parking is available nearby, and you should plan for the wax to need time to cure before you can take your finished candle home. This workshop makes a great weekend stop because it is flexible, creative, and fits easily into a Sunday afternoon walk around downtown Durham.
No tickets are required for individuals or small groups under five people. You can simply walk into the shop between 2 PM and 4 PM on Sunday.
Can I bring a large group to the drop-in hours?
Groups of five or six must email the shop ahead of time to warn the staff. Groups larger than six cannot be accommodated during drop-in hours and must book a private session.
Is this activity safe for toddlers?
Because of the hot wax and glass containers, this workshop is highly recommended for older children, teens, and adults rather than toddlers.
