The Duke Lemur Center Museum of Natural History, at 1013 Broad Street, Durham, North Carolina, houses a research collection that helps us to understand our evolutionary journey as primates. The collection includes 55 million year-old, lemur-like primate fossils from Wyoming; 37 to 28 million year-old anthropoid fossils from Egypt; 19 to 7 million year-old ape fossils from Egypt and India; 13 million year-old New World monkeys from Colombia; and 10,000 to 500 year-old lemur fossils from Madagascar. Please note that this museum is not on the main campus of the Duke Lemur Center, and it doesn't house any living lemurs. If you're interested in seeing live lemurs, check out the various tours at the Duke Lemur Center. Open House This Museum of Natural History is open to the public on select days each month. On select Saturdays, the museum holds an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is FREE. Explore the fossil collection and the exhibit that showcases the evolutionary journey of lemurs and humans. You can even see fossils of extinct giant lemurs that roamed Madagascar!
