Ready to turn up the heat and make something amazing? Join us at Shopspace for a fun, hands on introduction to the mesmerizing world of flameworking! In this beginner friendly class, you’ll work side by side with an experienced instructor to create your own unique glass piece, a personalized pendant, marble, or paperweight. We’ll kick things off with a live demonstration, giving you an up-close look at how molten glass transforms into beautiful, colorful creations. Then it’s your turn to get hands on! With guidance from your instructor, you’ll learn how to: Apply vibrant colors to molten glass. Shape and manipulate semi-molten glass using traditional tools. Sculpt your glass into your own one-of-a-kind design. No prior experience is needed, just bring your creativity, curiosity, and sense of adventure! Students will take turns working with the instructor, making this an engaging and interactive experience from start to finish. Your finished pieces will be annealed for strength and durability, then boxed and ready for pickup beginning the following Tuesday during normal Shopspace hours. Come play with fire, get creative, and make something you’ll be proud to take home!

Flameworking Glass Intro is a three-hour hands-on workshop where participants learn to melt and shape glass using a torch. Under the guidance of an instructor, students will watch a live demonstration before heating glass rods to create their own small items like pendants, marbles, or paperweights. This class is designed for beginners ages 14 and older, making it a great fit for parents and teenagers to try together. Note that any participant under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The registration fee is $150 per person, which covers all necessary materials and safety equipment. ShopSpace is located near downtown Raleigh, and you should wear closed-toe shoes and natural fiber clothing like cotton for safety. If you have a creative teenager who has outgrown typical children's crafts, this workshop offers a rare chance to work in a professional maker space. It is a focused, hands-on way to spend a weekend morning or afternoon learning a specialized skill together.
