Outdoors

Festival of Fabulous Mums: Basic Floral Design with Patty Stimell is a free, walk-in educational workshop focused on the fundamentals of flower arranging and preservation. Held inside the Pelham-Cullen Classroom at the Barnes Welcome Center, this session features a retired professional designer who will demonstrate how to prep containers and condition stems so your home arrangements last as long as possible. Because this is a seated demonstration rather than a hands-on craft, it is best suited for parents, teens, and older children who can sit quietly for an hour. There is no cost to attend and no pre-registration, but space is limited. Doors open at 12:45 PM, and seats are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Park in the main Duke Gardens lot, which requires a small hourly fee on weekends. This is a smart Sunday afternoon pick because it combines a practical, creative lesson with a chance to stroll the gardens afterward. You can take what you learn and practice at home using branches and blooms from your own yard.
