Breakfast, lunch, and watercrafts are provided (you may bring your own, but motorized crafts are not allowed). Volunteers will park and meet for breakfast at the launch site, then paddle down the creek, collecting litter along the way. Afterward, volunteers will help unload trash, enjoy lunch, and be shuttled back to the start.This cleanup is not like paddling on a lake. Creek conditions may require volunteers to get in and out of their watercrafts due to sandbars, low water, or obstacles. Paddling experience is required. Volunteers must be 16 or older. Anyone ages 16 and 17 must be accompanied by an adult guardian. All volunteers must sign a liability waiver.Spots are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. A waitlist will be created if registration fills up. Recommended items: drinking water, closed-toed shoes, sunscreen, and a hat.In case of bad weather or high water, the event will be rescheduled to the rain date. The Big Sweep Fall 2026 N. Raleigh Blvd Paddle is a volunteer waterway cleanup where participants paddle down Crabtree Creek to collect litter. If you plan to join the waitlist, keep in mind that this activity is restricted to volunteers ages 16 and older, and teenagers must have a parent with them. Wake County provides the kayaks, canoes, breakfast, and lunch, though you can bring your own non-motorized boat if you prefer. You will meet at the launch site to eat and park, paddle the creek, and then take a provided shuttle back to your vehicle after lunch. This is a physical, hands-on morning that requires previous paddling experience. Because Crabtree Creek has shallow areas, sandbars, and fallen logs, you should expect to step out of your boat into the water to pull your craft over obstacles. It is a rewarding choice for parents of older teens who want to work together to improve our local environment.
