Author Talk with Anthony Aycock: Book Banning on Trial

Join us at Cary Regional Library for a conversation with local author, teacher, and law librarian Anthony Aycock, a frequent contributor to Information Today whose work has also appeared in Slate, The Washington Post, Book Riot, Literary Hub, Reactor, and numerous literary journals. Aycock will discuss his newest book, Just Plain Filthy: The Story Behind Book Banning’s Trial of the Century, an in‑depth exploration of Island Trees School District v. Pico, the landmark 1982 Supreme Court case that reshaped the national debate over school library censorship. When a Long Island school board removed nine titles from its high school library in 1975, a student lawsuit pushed the issue all the way to the nation’s highest court, still the only book ban case ever heard there.
