Join Ackland educators for a lively half-hour look at a small handful of artworks in the collection. These engaging conversational tours offer a closer look at and new perspectives on works on view at the Museum. Free, but space is limited to 20 participants; first come, first served. This event is part of UNC–Chapel Hill’s Campus Life Experience (CLE) program. Students who attend can scan the QR code provided at the event to receive CLE credit.
A Closer Look at the Collection is a guided, thirty-minute gallery discussion led by museum educators at the Ackland Art Museum. Instead of rushing through the entire building, this focused session invites visitors to slow down and examine just a few specific pieces of art in detail. This program is best suited for teenagers and adults who can participate in a quiet, conversational setting. Admission is entirely free, but you will want to arrive early because the museum limits the group size to twenty participants on a first-come, first-served basis. This tour makes an excellent weekend stop because it is brief and highly structured. You can easily pair this thirty-minute cultural activity with a walk through the UNC campus or a lunch spot on Franklin Street, making it a manageable way to introduce older children to art analysis without overwhelming them.
No registration is required, but space is limited to the first twenty people who arrive. Plan to get to the museum lobby at least fifteen minutes before the 1:00 PM start time to secure your spot.
Is this tour suitable for toddlers and young children?
This program is designed as a quiet, conversational discussion focused on art analysis, which is best suited for teenagers and adults. Families with very young children may prefer to explore the galleries at their own pace.
