Zine Folk NC is a day-long celebration of zines, small press comics & print media coming to Raleigh, North Carolina. Zine Folk NC came about in order to meet the needs of North Carolina’s growing zine maker and independent comics community, and to promote independent voices and physical media. The event will feature two floors of exhibitor tables with NC-based zine makers and independent comic artists, a classroom with workshops on how to make and trade your own zines (full schedule coming soon), snacks and drinks available for purchase, and a live zine-reading hour. Zine Folk NC is absolutely free to attend! We do encourage visitors to bring money to purchase from our exhibitors, as well as bring your own zines to trade.
Zine Folk N.C. is a day-long festival celebrating self-published magazines, independent comic books, and physical print media at Artspace in downtown Raleigh. The event brings together creators from across the state to share their work, trade ideas, and teach others how to start their own publications. If you are planning to go, this event is best suited for middle schoolers, teens, and adults who enjoy drawing, writing, or graphic design. Admission is completely free, but you will want to bring cash to purchase directly from the artists or buy snacks. Street parking is available around Artspace, or you can use the nearby Wilmington Station Deck. Be sure to bring along any of your own homemade booklets or drawings if you want to participate in the trading sessions. This is a fantastic weekend destination because it offers a rare, hands-on look at the local art scene. Your creative kids can step away from their screens, learn tangible bookmaking skills in the free workshops, and get inspired by real working artists.
While all ages are welcome, the workshops and reading materials are best suited for middle schoolers, teenagers, and adults who have an interest in writing, drawing, and crafting.
Do I need to buy tickets for the workshops?
No, entry to the event and participation in the maker workshops are completely free, though space in the classroom may be limited on a first-come, first-served basis.
Where should I park for the event at Artspace?
You can find metered street parking along Davie Street and Persona Street, or park in the City of Raleigh Wilmington Station Deck located just a block away.
