Write it Down: Letters, Archives, and Creative Response

Date: Tue, Nov 17, 2026

Time: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Venue: Main Library – Main Children's Programming Room, Durham

Price: Free

Category: Music

Join us for an evening of letter reading and letter writing inspired by archival materials from the Rosetta Reitz papers at Duke University. The program will be guided by singer/songwriter and Duke Practitioner in Residence Tift Merritt and Duke Senior Research Scholar Lou Brown, co-leaders of an ongoing research project into the processes and practices of this feminist cultural entrepreneur. They will share a couple of letters that have inspired their own imagination and create space for everyone to read and write letters of their own. Bring a letter from your own archives to share if you would like! All are welcome! Registration required at the link below. NOTE: WHILE THIS PROGRAM WILL BE HELD IN THE MAIN CHILDREN'S PROGRAMMING ROOM AT THE DURHAM COUNTY MAIN LIBRARY, THE BOOK IS MOST APPROPRIATE FOR OLDER TEENS AND ADULTS. This program is part of "Forum @ the Library" – a monthly series featuring Duke researchers and faculty sharing their work in an interactive format, hosted by the Durham County Library (DCL) in partnership with the Forum for Scholars and Publics at the Franklin Humanities Institute. For this event, we also acknowledge the support of Bass Connections at Duke University.
