What is Woodcraft 101 | Build a Leopold Bench? This is a hands-on, beginner-level woodworking workshop where participants learn to select lumber, read construction plans, and safely use tools to build a classic outdoor bench. Led by the facility manager at the ArtsCenter, the class takes place outdoors under a shelter, allowing you to gain practical building skills in a supportive environment. What to Know: This class is designed for participants aged 18 and older, though teenagers aged 15 to 17 can participate if accompanied by a registered guardian. The registration fee is $50, plus an $80 materials fee paid at registration which covers all necessary tools and lumber. You will work in pairs to build two benches per group, meaning you get to take your creation home. Wear closed-toe shoes and dress for the outdoor weather, as the workspace is covered but open to the elements. In case of rain, the class will likely move to Sunday, October 18th. This workshop makes an excellent weekend activity because it offers a rare opportunity for older kids and parents to collaborate on a tangible project. Instead of just watching a demonstration, you get to operate the tools yourself and leave with a functional piece of garden furniture that you built with your own hands.
