Who Lives in the Pond? at Annie Louise Wilkerson Nature Preserve is an outdoor science workshop where children search for aquatic wildlife along the water's edge. Led by park staff, participants will use nets to gently scoop up water insects, tadpoles, and small fish to study them up close before releasing them back into their habitat. This program is designed for children ages five through ten and costs four dollars per participant. Registration must be completed in advance through the Raleigh park system portal. The preserve has a gravel parking lot near the main park office, and the pond is a short, flat walk down a dirt trail. Kids should wear closed-toe shoes that you do not mind getting muddy, as the banks can be slick. This workshop is an easy way to get your kids outdoors after school on a Friday. The late afternoon timing allows you to transition into the weekend with fresh air and hands-on learning, all for less than the price of a cup of coffee.
