Unconventional Artists!: K-5th Adventures is a free, hands-on creative workshop where elementary schoolers learn to paint using natural objects instead of traditional brushes. Kids will explore different ways to make art before using acorns and other gathered fall items to stamp, roll, and press paint onto their canvases. This program is designed specifically for children in kindergarten through fifth grade and is completely free to attend. The workshop takes place at the Southgate Community Library in Raleigh, which offers free on-site parking right in front of the building. You do not need to bring any supplies, but it is a good idea to dress your child in clothes that can handle a few stray paint splatters. It is a smart weekday addition to your calendar because it gets the kids out of the house for a structured, creative activity right after school. Plus, the library setting makes it easy to grab your weekly stack of books before heading home for dinner.
