Northstar allows you to track your learning progress and earn badges or certificates for completing a course. These classes are best for learners who have at least basic keyboard and mouse skills. Our computer lab has a limited number of laptops for use, so bringing your own laptop and headphones is encouraged. Tuesday Computer Class @ Main is a free, self-paced digital literacy workshop held in the computer lab at the Durham County Library. Participants use the Northstar Digital Literacy platform to learn practical skills ranging from basic email use and internet safety to Microsoft Office programs and social media navigation. A library staff member is on hand to help you set up your profile, answer questions, and guide you through the modules. To get the most out of this class, you should already know how to use a keyboard and mouse. The library has a limited number of laptops available, so you are highly encouraged to bring your own laptop and a pair of headphones. The class is completely free, and you can earn certificates as you complete different learning modules. While this is a weekday morning event rather than a weekend outing, it is an excellent opportunity for parents to invest in their own education. Taking place at the Main Library, you can easily combine this productive session with a trip to the children's department to pick up books for the week ahead.
