Join the STEAM Team in the Innovation Lab during specified open hours to do paper crafts by creating your own Zine and fold origami! Zines (pronounced "zeens") are tough to define because they can be so many things! Basically, they are self-published booklets containing anything you want - art, writing, drawings, recipes, poetry, comics, etc. The content and look are totally up to the creator. It's all about self-expression. Origami is an ancient art technique to fold paper into exciting and unexpected shapes. This is a self-paced activity. You can drop in during the listed Open Lab Hours. Innovation Lab Open Hours: Monday: Closed Tuesday: 1pm - 5pm Wednesday: 3pm -7pm Thursday: 10am - 2pm Friday: 1pm - 5pm Saturday: 11am - 1pm and 3pm - 5pm Hours subject to change based on staffing and programming needs.

This Week In the Lab: Paper Crafts is a free, drop-in creative workshop hosted by the STEAM Team at the Durham County Library. Visitors can explore the Innovation Lab to design their own self-published booklets, known as zines, and practice the traditional art of paper folding. This self-paced activity is open to all ages, though school-aged children and teens will get the most out of the zine-making process. There is no cost to participate, and all crafting supplies are provided. The Main Library offers free parking in the attached deck, and you do not need to register in advance. It is a smart weekday afternoon stop when you need a quiet, structured activity to bridge the gap between school dismissal and dinner. The open-house format means you can stay for twenty minutes or the full four hours depending on your child's attention span.

No registration is required. This is a drop-in event, so you can arrive at the Innovation Lab anytime between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
