Join the Maker + STEAM Team in the Innovation Lab during specified open hours to discover how you can use the properties of electricity and circuit building in order to create a game controller with a Makey Makey kit! This is a self-paced activity. You can drop in during the listed Open Lab Hours. Innovation Lab Open Hours: Monday: Closed Tuesday: 1pm - 5pm Wednesday: 3pm - 7pm Thursday: 10am - 2pm Friday: 1pm - 5pm Saturday: 11am - 1pm & 3pm - 5pm Hours subject to change based on staffing and programming needs.
This Week In the Lab: Makey Makeys is a hands-on, drop-in science and technology workshop hosted by the library's Maker and STEAM team. Kids can explore the basics of circuitry and electrical conductivity by building their own custom game controllers using Makey Makey kits. What to Know: This free activity takes place in the Innovation Lab on the second floor of the Main Library in downtown Durham. The session runs from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and because it is self-paced, you can arrive at any point during those hours. Free parking is available in the library lot, and the activity is best suited for elementary and middle school-aged children who can follow basic step-by-step instructions. This is an easy, low-pressure addition to your Saturday morning. It gets the kids out of the house for some screen-free learning, and you can easily pair it with a trip to the children's section to stock up on books for the week ahead.
Do we need to register for the Makey Makey lab in advance?
