One of the many tools used in conservation is translocation – moving individual animals or plants to a new area. They can be moved to establish new populations, increase existing numbers, or to remove an ongoing threat. While it can bring many benefits, translocation requires careful planning to ensure individuals thrive in their new habitat. This is especially true with endangered black rhinos, so conservation partners carefully study how animals behave, their genetic health, and source populations prior to conducting translocations. Listen to our own Dr. Liz Kierepka, as she talks about her work with the species.
