Sunset Big Canoe Paddle is a guided group boating event at the Beaverdam Recreation Area where participants work together to steer a massive 14-passenger canoe. Park rangers provide the paddles, life jackets, and a quick safety briefing on the shore before launching the boat for a twilight tour of the lake. This activity is best suited for older children who can sit still in a boat and assist with paddling. The event is entirely free, but you will need to follow the park signs directly to the Beaverdam boat ramp. Be sure to pack water bottles for everyone and dress in layers, as the temperature drops quickly over the water once the sun goes down. It is a smart weekend pick because it offers a structured, safe introduction to boating without the hassle of renting or hauling your own heavy equipment.
