These tours are great during a first-time visit, after lunch at NCMA Café, or if you’re curious about the 5,000+ years of art and culture exhibited at the Museum. Tours vary and are subject to docent availability. NCMA docents may explore several galleries, focus on specific artists, or delve into the fundamentals and elements of art. All ages are welcome! To participate, meet your docent in West Building at the public tour sign.

The Public Tour is a free, fifty-minute guided walk through the museum's permanent collection led by volunteer docents. To join, meet your guide in the West Building near the public tour sign just before 1:00 PM. While the tour welcomes all ages, the fifty-minute format is best suited for school-age children who can comfortably walk and listen. Strollers are welcome in the galleries, and parking at the museum is free and plentiful. This is an easy, low-pressure weekend activity because it requires no advance tickets or planning. You can grab lunch at the museum cafe beforehand, take the tour, and then let the kids run around the outdoor art park afterward.
