Love Your Falls Lake is an outdoor educational event that opens up the restricted intake tower at the dam for public tours. Visitors can walk across the structure to look down at the water and meet the park rangers, wildlife officers, and environmental groups who protect the reservoir. What to Know: This event is completely free and operates on a drop-in basis between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. The walk onto the tower is fully paved and stroller-friendly, making it accessible for toddlers, though older children will get the most out of the educational booths. Parking is available at the Falls Lake Dam recreation area lot, but you should prepare for a short walk from your car to the dam structure. Pack sunscreen, water bottles, and comfortable walking shoes, as there is very little shade on top of the dam. This is a smart weekend pick because it offers a rare look behind the scenes of local infrastructure that is normally closed to the public, giving kids a tangible connection to where their drinking water comes from.
