K-5th Adventures: Aquatic Insects with Harris Lake County Park is a free, hands-on science program where elementary school students can explore a local pond to discover native water bugs. Led by county park rangers, children will learn how to identify different species and understand the health of our local water systems. This program is designed specifically for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. It takes place at the Zebulon Community Library, which offers free on-site parking. Because a portion of the event takes place outdoors by the pond behind the library, children should wear closed-toe shoes that can get a little dirty, and parents may want to apply bug spray beforehand. It is an easy, educational way to fill a weekday afternoon without spending any money. Your kids get to burn off some energy outdoors while learning real scientific observation skills from local experts.
