Jewish Film Series: Hester Street

Join us for a screening of Joan Micklin Silver’s acclaimed 1975 film Hester Street, presented in a new 4K restoration. Starring Oscar-nominated Carol Kane, this vivid portrait of Jewish immigrant life in 19th-century New York follows Gitl as she reunites with her husband and navigates the tensions between Old World traditions and her emerging identity as an American woman. A talkback with special guest Julia Wagner, a film studies scholar and author of Hester Street, will follow the screening.
