Japanese Stab Binding | Bookmaking Workshop

The Japanese Stab Binding Bookmaking Workshop is a two-hour hands-on class where participants learn to create a handmade booklet using the traditional hemp-leaf binding method. Local instructor Meg Miller will guide the group through each step of the process, from aligning the pages to stitching the spine. All necessary tools, paper, and binding materials are provided with your registration. This class is best suited for adults and teenagers aged fourteen and up due to the precision and sharp tools required for the stitching. Tickets are forty dollars per person, and the workshop takes place in downtown Hillsborough, where street parking is available but can fill up quickly on Saturday afternoons. You do not need to bring any supplies, but you may want to arrive a few minutes early to find parking and settle into the studio space. It makes a wonderful weekend outing if you want to spend quiet, creative time with your older teenager or enjoy a solo afternoon learning a practical new skill. You will leave the session with a completed, custom notebook and the knowledge to replicate the binding technique at home for future journaling or gifting projects.
