The Hobbit Hike is a themed, one-mile outdoor walk through the wooded trails of Pritchard Park behind the Chapel Hill Public Library. Led by library staff, the group will follow a rocky loop trail decorated with scenes from the classic book, ending with themed snacks in the outdoor classroom. Since the trail is uneven, rocky, and can be slippery, leave the strollers at home and make sure everyone wears closed-toed shoes. This event is designed specifically for children ages seven and older, teens, and adults, and you must register online in advance to secure a spot. If the weather looks bad, check your email before heading out, as heavy rain will cancel the hike. It is a great Sunday afternoon option because it combines fresh air and physical activity with a literary twist, and the library parking lot makes arrival and departure incredibly simple.
