The Hillsborough Street Jazz Trio is a local Raleigh-based musical group featuring Chelsea Waddelow on piano, Jim Waddelow on bass, and Danny Lavan on drums. Their sound blends classic jazz with modern influences ranging from Brad Mehldau to Tom Waits. This free one-hour concert takes place inside Carswell Concert Hall at the Wainwright Music Building on the Meredith College campus. Because it is an indoor, seated performance, it is best suited for school-aged children and teenagers who can sit quietly through the set. Parking is available in the campus lots near the music building, and you do not need to purchase tickets in advance. It is a low-stress way to expose your kids to live instrumental music without committing to a long, expensive theater production. The early evening timeframe leaves plenty of room to grab dinner nearby on Hillsborough Street before the music starts.
