Discovery Drop-In & Storytime is a free weekly outdoor program at Duke Gardens featuring interactive reading sessions and self-guided nature activities for young children. Held in the Charlotte Brody Discovery Garden, the event offers two scheduled story readings at 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM in the designated Story Circle. Between these sessions, children can work on hands-on projects set up at the nearby picnic tables. This program is designed for toddlers and preschoolers, though older siblings are welcome to tag along. While the event itself is free and requires no advance registration, you will need to pay for parking at the Duke Gardens lot, which costs two dollars per hour. The garden paths are stroller-friendly, but packing a blanket to sit on during storytime is highly recommended since seating in the Story Circle is limited. It is an ideal weekday outing because of its flexibility. You can arrive at any point during the two-hour window, let your kids burn off energy in the organic vegetable garden, and head home right in time for afternoon naps.
